If a profitable Betfair backing method is what you’re looking for then look no further! Turning conventional betting wisdom on it’s head, you too could be picking out winners which the uninformed masses will be avoiding like the plague.
The Contrarian Betting Method (CBM) is a simple “hands on” approach to betting which throws conventional wisdom out of the window. As with all all our methods, we don’t read form or pay any attention to “hot tips”. We use market-driven data and statistics to make our selections.
Eight years in the making
The “seed” of the Contrarian Betting Method was sown way back in 2008 with the publication of a Betfair article by Jack Houghton. He studied all 65,000 horses that ran in 2006 to see if there was any profit to be had betting steamers or drifters. Well, like you no doubt, we sat on that article for years, thinking “One day, we will get around to testing the hypothesis that, contrary to our human betting emotion, drifters do, in fact make us money“.
Although the categorisation of drifters and steamers was somewhat arbitrary, the article did offer compelling evidence as to the folly of blindly following market steamers. To a £10 stake, you would have lost nearly £3,500 backing steamers, and won nearly £2,310 backing drifters. Is it any wonder that the bookies are keen to propagate the steamer myth?
We couldn’t get the article out of our heads, and we needed to test it! So we did!
Between November 2015 and April 2016 we recorded the price changes in every horse racing market for over 22,000 runners to see if there was any profit in backing drifters. And guess what? There is! BUT, with a simple tweak of the original criteria to find a “qualifier” we turned a method producing modest profits into a money making machine.
